Blue Rose Code
October 20, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
£20
At the edge of contemporary alt-folk music, Blue Rose Code is Edinburgh-born songwriter Ross Wilson. A personal favourite of several WemsFest volunteers, we’re going to let his music speak for itself here…check out the videos below (we had a hard time only choosing 3!) and join us for an intimate gig in St James Parish Hall, Emsworth.
“Imagine John Martyn meets a young Van Morrison shipwrecked with a crate of Chet Baker records” -Time Out
Blue Rose Code released the album Thirteen Years last month, after writing while on tour with The Proclaimers last year. Noting that four million children in Britain are currently living in food poverty, Aberdeen’s Press & Journal reviewed the headline single: ”Thirteen Years is an impassioned condemnation of the hardships faced, particularly by children, in Britain today.” All proceeds from the single will be donated to Scotland’s national children’s charity, Children 1st.
“Ravishingly beautiful, a blaze of Caledonian Soul, muted jazz & poetic recitation.” –Uncut 8/10
“A superb singer, songwriter and guitarist. Beautiful songs, a genuine pleasure to have been involved.” –Danny Thompson
“Ross Wilson’s mellifluous voice and fluid fingerpicking cast him as the natural successor to John Martyn.” –Rick Pearson, The Evening Standard
Doors open at 7.30pm.
