Ella Rundle, cellist
Described as a performer of ‘infectious passion’ (Ottawa Citizen) Ella Rundle is in demand as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the UK, Europe, and further abroad. She has toured extensively with various chamber ensembles and has been broadcasted on BBC Radio 3, Portuguese Radio RTP, and SWR Germany. She has been invited to perform at festivals such as Fête de la Forêt Musicale (France), Festival Pontiac Enchante (Ottawa), Birdfoot Festival (New Orleans), Thy (Denmark), and Viana (Portugal).
Ella is prize winner of the 2015 Philip and Dorothy Green Award for Young Concert Artists and as 2013/14 Tillett Trust Young Artist she gave her debut at the Wigmore Hall to critical acclaim;
‘…a splendid account of Debussy’s cello sonata, weaving together its disjointed eccentricities skilfully and quite briskly. Faure’s Romance was eloquent and understated, and Chopin’s Introduction and Polonaise Brilliante op.3 was performed with panache..’ – The Strad, Wigmore Hall 2013.
Other debut performances include venues such as the Purcell Room, Snape Maltings, Holywell Music Rooms and Wigmore Hall. Recent performances also include the concertos by Elgar, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak and Haydn.
Ella has been invited as guest principal cello to such orchestras as the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and Royal Northern Sinfonia. She has also been a member of the Philharmonia Orchestra since 2015, where she enjoys a busy touring career around the world.
Ella has been a member of Trio Klein since 2020 with whom she enjoys exploring cutting edge new works as well as the lesser know depths of the string trio repertoire.
Ella studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Louise Hopkins and completed her Masters degree in 2013 at the Universität der Künste, Berlin, with Konstantin Heidrich. She is grateful to have held scholarships from the Countess of Munster, DAAD, Martin Musical Scholarship Fund, Drapers’ Company and the Worshipful Company of Musicians and the English Speaking Union to attend IMS Prussia Cove.
